Steli Efti blogs about tomato sauce.

I don’t cook, but I’m pretty sure that if you want to come up with a new recipe, you don’t find a formula of ingredients that are scientifically proven to stimulate the taste buds in a certain way. If you do, I would love to know how you do it.

But I think most of you, when you come up with a new recipe, you try something, and adjust it accordingly. You accept that your first attempt isn’t necessarily what you want. But you build on it, add a bit of salt, different spices, etc, to get the “perfect” taste.

The same goes for any idea. At the start it’s not going to be what you want. You’ve got to be ready to accept failure. And more importantly, to see it as a learning opportunity. You’re almost definitely not going to get it right on your first attempt. Accept it. Build on it. It doesn’t mean your idea is bad.
