The average student in Singapore seems to be getting more and more stressed out about schoolwork. I find it a really sad situation. Education should be about inspiring students to learn, it should make the students want to learn more. It should be an inspiring, enjoyable journey, not something that stresses out the students.
A friend of mine recently said something that struck me. She said that the most stressful period isn’t the exams, it’s when the results come out. That really says a lot about the state of education nowadays, especially here. The focus has become so much about the results we get, and that shouldn’t be the case.
“The object of education is to prepare the young to educate themselves throughout their lives.” – Robert M. Hutchins.
Education should be about the process, it shouldn’t be about the result.
