One defining attribute about a star is that it has enough energy to produce its own light. 2 things from that simple statement.
Firstly, a star needs to have massive amount of energy to be considered a star. Second, from that energy comes light.
What does that mean for you? Well, lets separate the two things.
1) A star has a massive amount of energy. What is energy? Its the driving force, the force that drives motion and causes action. For you, that translates into your passions. What drives you on and keeps you going?
2) From that energy, the star produces its own light. This light can travel far (and I mean really far). We on earth can see stars millions of light years away. If you let your passions burn, you can have great influence as well.
How many of us try to model ourselves after celebrities (or if you would excuse the pun, stars)? Many of us, as Seth Godin tells us.
But why not be the star? Be the one that influences others. If you follow your passion, you can.
Another thing about stars, the light of the star lasts than the star itself. Even after the star dies, the light that it emitted continues travelling. Similarly, as Peter Haslam tells us, the influence we have on others is what will last.
It is when we create something of value to others especially relationships with others that we leave a legacy. A legacy of fond and happy memories in the lives of people we have touched and perhaps changed. That legacy lasts forever as it is passed down through the generations.
Follow your passions, make the most of that passion and energy to influence those around you. And that influence will last. It will be your legacy.
You can be a star.
Thank you for your reference to my post and it fits in very well with the concept you are presenting
