Forging your own path isn’t always easy. It’s what I want to do, that’s for sure. I want to be my own person, and blaze my own trail and all. But it’s not always easy.
When you forge your own path, more often than not, it means that you’re on your own. It’s your own path. And you’ll probably have to walk it on your own.
The other thing about forging your own path, is that it’s a path that few (if any) have gone. Sometimes you won’t know for sure where you’re heading. It’s a new path, and sometimes you lose your way, or have to make it up as you go along.
It’s not easy. It can be a struggle at times (which is kind of what I’m feeling lately). But I’m pretty sure it’ll be worth it in the end.
How do you deal with the challenges of forging your own path? Or if you don’t face any challenges, maybe you could share some advice?
Derrick,
Although it is true that everyone is on their own path, that doesn't mean you are alone. Other people are on parallel paths, going in the same direction. Some are farther along, some not, and some are moving at perhaps the same speed you are. No one can ever be sure where they are heading. The best that can be hoped for is a direction . Uncertainty is always a factor along the path, and the best attribute you can have is self confidence in yourself, your judgments and inner instincts that whatever comes your way, you have the capacity to deal with it in a way that will reflect growth, knowledge and ultimately wisdom.

Hi Jon, thanks for the comment.
Yeah, there are people on parallel paths, in similar directions, etc. But they can't walk on your path, and there will be times it seems like there isn't anyone walking alongside you, I guess. Might not always be easy to see the people on the parallel paths.
Thanks for the encouragement and advice, though. =).

Hey Derrick, I'm with you about how it can get a little lonely when you're forging your own path, but you know what, I think it's worth it. Because it's what you were meant to do. And I find that talking about it really helps and makes me realise that it's the right thing to do.
For example, I've recently decided to embark in a career path totally different from my course of study. Many people would deem it foolish, especially because they claim that accountants will always be in demand, and thus I would never have to worry about finding a job. This is Singapore, and one should be practical, they say. However, the more I thought about it, the more I balked at the idea. Why settle for something that's just not you?
My point is, be true to yourself. Sure, it can get a little lonely, but there's no point following the crowd if you in your heart that it's not for you. All the best, trail-blazer!
(and thanks for visiting my blog! I am truly honoured)

Thanks for the encouragement, Nabilah. Agreed, especially in Singapore, there seems to be so much focus on being "practical", that it annoys me sometimes.
Yeah, I do believe it's worth it, but it's hard sometimes, I guess.
And no need to be honored about me visiting your blog. Haha. You've got some great stuff. =).
