Job Dedication
Dec 9, 2008 People
Thanks for coming back. =). Glad to see you. If there's anything I can do for you, I'd love to hear from you. Drop me an email, or leave a comment, introduce yourself. I'd love to connect with you. Or if you have your own blog, why not let me promote your work?
A few days ago I wrote about doing what you love.
And doing what you love is not just important for you, as an individual, it’s also important for the company you work for.
Yes, you can do decent work doing something you don’t love. But you will never get dedication like this.

Doing What You Love
Dec 5, 2008 Personal
About a week ago, I was invited to join a Multi-Level Marketing company here. I won’t reveal the name of the company, but I rejected the offer. It has nothing to do with the company itself. It’s a legitimate company, and despite the skepticism of many Singaporeans, I do believe that MLM is a legitimate business model – and one that it’s possible to earn a lot from.
So why did I reject the offer? Because I don’t believe in the product. I’m not passionate about what they are selling. And that’s the most important thing for me.
Yes, I was tempted by the money, I’m not going to deny that. I was definitely very tempted. But after talking to Connie Bensen about it (thanks for the advice, Connie), she helped me realize that it wouldn’t be worth doing if I wasn’t passionate about it.
You can make money doing a lot of things. But is it really worth it if you’re not doing something you love?

Looking for “Butterfly Hunters”
Oct 31, 2008 Announcements, Random
Last year, I posted about the book “The Butterfly Hunter“.
As I said then, it’s a book that really resonates with me, and fits in with my blog topic. As such, I’m looking to connect with people who are “butterfly hunters”. Not in the literal sense of catching insects. But people who have taken the risk to go off the beaten path and pursue their callings. People who love what they do, whose jobs are part of who they are.
Does that sound like you? Or someone you know? If so, please, drop me an email or post a comment. I’d love to get to talk to you, and maybe even share your story here on the blog. I’m especially looking to connect with such people who are here in Singapore, but even if you’re not, feel free to contact me, I’d love to get to know you.
[?]Pixelated – Sui Generis Conference
Oct 7, 2008 blogging, Personal Development
Mitch Joel recently started the Pixelated Conference, a free business conference you can watch from anywhere. Chris Brogan took the idea one step further, encouraging all of us to create our own Pixelated Conferences.
I think it’s a really good series. So here’s mine. The Pixelated – Sui Generis Conference. 7 sessions (in no particular order, because I think you should watch all of them) about being remarkable, following your passions, and changing the world.
If you the videos don’t appear (if you’re reading via RSS, for example), you can check it out here.
And if you like it, feel free to grab the list and share it. Or better yet, make your own and join be part of the series.

“There is no reason, in 2008, to do shit you hate.”
Sep 24, 2008 personal branding, Personal Development
So says Gary Vaynerchuk, and I couldn’t agree more.
There’s really nothing much I can add to what he says. If you haven’t already, you really should watch it – it’s more than worth the 15 minutes.

The EPL – The Best League in the World?
Aug 26, 2008 Sports
Whether it’s the best is debatable, but the English Premier League is undoubtedly the biggest league in the world. It has the most fans, the most money involved, etc.
But why? Especially when the English League can be said to lack the flair and individual skill of the Spanish Primera Liga, as well as the tactical discipline of the Serie A.
What the Englihs League has, however, is passion. It’s known to be faster and more intense than any other league. The players are known for always giving their best, and there is (arguably) more passion surrounding the game than in any other country.
Perhaps people don’t truly care about tactics and technique that much? While they do matter, could it be that passion and intensity sells (to the masses) more?

Lessons from Soccer
Jan 29, 2008 Sports
Just came back from playing soccer. I played better than I have in quite a while, and I think that’s because of the team I played with today. Two things about the team.
Firstly, their style of play suited me perfectly. The pass-and-move game is what I do best, and the team today played that really well. I didn’t have to change my style of play at all, I blended in perfectly with the team. We complemented each other well.
Secondly, the team was very relaxed. Even when we made individual errors, nobody sulked or blamed each other. We just laughed it off and continued. That relaxed air meant that I, personally, was less afraid of making mistakes then usual. And that allowed me to express myself more, and allowed me to play better.
Two simple lessons, but with really significant impact. Surround yourself with people who complement you. And enjoy what you’re doing, don’t be afraid of making mistakes.
If you do that, you’re much more likely to succeed, in my opinion. What do you think?
