Sometimes being creative and original is better than being intelligent (in terms of traditional intelligence). These people took ideas that nobody else would have considered and went for it. They took the risk (of looking stupid, of failure) to try something new, and it worked.

To do something that people notice, you have to be remarkable. The thing about being remarkable is it doesn’t necessarily have to be good (in the conventional definition of good). Remarkable just means worth talking about. If you do something new, something remarkable, people will talk about it, and it will spread.
