Doing "what’s expected"?

Thanks for coming back. =). Glad to see you. If there's anything I can do for you, I'd love to hear from you. Drop me an email, or leave a comment, introduce yourself. I'd love to connect with you. Or if you have your own blog, why not let me promote your work?

A friend I’ve been to talking to a lot lately typifies a Singaporean “achieving” teen. Good grades and results, seen as a very good kid. But unwilling to take risks, not wanting to think for herself, and doing things just for the sake of it.

She’s been complaining a lot about all the things she has to do. And yet she still continues to force herself to do it. Without any reason. When asked, she doesn’t seem to be able to answer or provide a reason for it.

That’s an attitude that’s very prevalent here in Singapore. People who do things just because it’s “what’s expected”, just because it’s what everyone else does. And it’s one thing that I can’t stand about Singapore.

Why are you doing what you are doing? Is it just because it’s expected of you?

come on as a matter of fact, i seriously dont get it why are you so full of complaints at a freakin young age of 17 years old? havent you ever hear of the quote that if you cant change the bigger environment first change yourself? improving yourself to be someone better will thus provide you with the chance to change the bigger picture since you are at least SOMEONE. unlike now, what i perceive from your blog is nothing but a childish 17-year-old boy complaining about how his life sucks when EVERY other teen is doing the same thing. get it what we are striving for? its a better future so that we can CHANGE our current situation for the better in the future. USELESS and of course BRAINLESS comments get you nowhere.

    *raises eyebrow*

Um. If you’ve read my post properly, you’ll realize that I was commenting on my friend’s complaints.

And if you bothered to read my blog properly, you’ll realize that that is mainly what I’m commenting about. I’ve never said anything about how my life sucks. I’d appreciate it if you took the time reading before attacking me that way.

why should i bother to read your blog?I don’t even think that there is anything worth reading in your blog!So what if you are just commenting about your friend’s complaints? you are obviously saying that we should not just do what is expected of us.Isn’t this equivalent to COMPLAINING that YOU have to do what is expected of you?

  • Derrick Kwa

Firstly, then why are you still here if you don’t think there’s anything worth reading. Nobody’s forcing you to come back. And as to why you should read it, maybe so that you can know what you’re talking about before making senseless attacks.

Secondly, there’s a big difference between “saying that we should not just do what is expected of us” and “COMPLAINING that YOU have to do what is expected of you”.
